Fry Bread Ingredients 3 cups all-purpose flour 1 tablespoon baking powder 1 teaspoon salt 1 1/4 cups warm water Extra flour for processing Oil for Cooking Makes approximately 10 smaller breads or 6-8 larger ones. Procedure 1) Mix dry ingredients together, then pour warm water into center and mix by hand. You want the dough to be smooth and not sticky. If it is too moist, sprinkle a little flour into it until it is the right consistency, soft but not sticky. You might need to add another pinch of salt & baking power depending on how much flour you add. 2) Cover the dough for about 10 minutes with a dishtowel. 3) Next break small pieces off and roll into balls, then flatten with a rolling pin or by hand. 4) Put about an inch of oil in a heavy pan (cast iron is the best) and drop the dough in when hot. Cook until the edge is brown, then flip (about 2-3 min per side). 5) Put on paper towel to absorb excess grease. Top with honey, powered sugar, jam, or use for an Indian Taco.
