6. Quality aspects in production: 20 A company produces the "Classic 2 Slice Toaster" and in the production it is observed that the number of defects recently have increased since they started producing this appliance. To be able to reduce the number of defects the Quality Department initializes a research project to solve this problem. Their aim is to reduce the number of defects with at least 25%. To do this they gather information during a week and the type and number of defects are collected. What is observed is that some defects happen more on certain days of the week than others. The table below shows the days of the week and their found defects: Tuesday Wednesd Monday 4 1 10 0 6 1 0 3 1 1 Defect Control PCB Heater Element Solenoid Control Knob Latch Lever Thermostat Chassis Total Sunday 6 Defects Sunday Monday 2 4 1 0 Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Saterday 2 1 0 16 4 3 0 2 1 2 16 6 5 0 2 1 0 Control PCB 6 4 1 10 17 10 15 1 16 0 22 Thursday 17 2 4 3 0 Humidity (%) 18 15 12 60 91 72 81 0 1 1 28 Friday 10 0 0 2 2 1 1 0 16 Saturday Total 15 63 7 5 2 2 0 a) Perform a Quality Analysis using a Pareto Analysis and give advice which problem should be addressed first. 0 0 31 While gathering the data it was found out the amount of defects on the PCB could be related to the surrounding humidity. mmm 23 23 11 9 7 5 4 145 b) Create an Ishikawa diagram and try to find the root cause of the PCB defects. c) Show how a scatter diagram can show if there is a relation between the Humidity in the work environment a the PCB defects.
