A job shop consists of 6 different machines and 4 different jobs are to be processed through these machines. The job interarrival time follows Exp(15) mins. Each job is processed on a series of machines as defined in the visitation sequence for the job. The job types, lead time, machine sequence and processing time (shown in bracket-normal distribution with mean and std. deviation) are shown in Table 1. The shop operates at 8 hours/day and the part arrives randomly. The objective is to estimate the average daily throughput for each part type. Table 1 Job type 1 2 3 Percent 20 30 30 20 Lead-time 110 125 150 145 Sequence and processing time 2(14, 4.2), 5(22, 6.6), 1(17,5.1) 6(24, 7.2), 4(17, 5.1), 3(14, 4.2), 1(7.2.1) 3(12, 3.6), 2(28, 8.4), 6(15, 4.5), 5(19, 5.7), 4(16, 4.8) 1(27, 8.1), 6(13, 3.9), 5(6, 1.8), 2(25, 7.5) Explain the steps involved in simulating the job shop using Simquick software Suggest whether you prefer a terminating or a non-terminating simulation. Do you consider warm up period for this case? Explain how will you decide the replication, run length and validate the model output. Suggest scenarios to improve the performance of existing system.
