Adam and Bob were walking down the street, coming back from a baseball game when they saw
Question:
Adam and Bob were walking down the street, coming back from a baseball game when they saw Chris who smelled of alcohol and looked unsteady. Bob was wearing a baseball hat from the city's rival sports team. Chris saw the hat, got offended, and he and Bob got into a verbal argument. After some time, Chris became upset and pulled a knife out of his jacket. Chris charged at Bob and Bob stepped to the side and kicked Chris, knocking the knife to the ground. Chris, put off balance by Bob's kick, fell to the ground and unexpectedly hit his head on the sidewalk. Chris then stood up, turned to face Bob, and walked toward him with his fists up. Adam watched these events and was unsure how to intervene. Adam was carrying a baseball bat from the game and also a gun. After momentary consideration, Adam drew the gun, aimed at Chris and shot. Bob picked up and pocketed Chris's knife keeping it as a souvenir of the event. Chris died. An autopsy showed Chris's fall to the ground was caused by a burst blood vessel in his neck. Chris would have died in a few hours from this burst vessel. It also revealed Chris was drunk.
Discuss the crimes and defenses for Adam, Bob, and Chris under both the Common Law and Model Penal Code.
