Analyze your( in a rehab center )for AOD AND MENTAL ISSUE workplace/work placement in terms of how the service recognizes and responds to clients who have/may have experienced trauma. The following areas need to be addressed:

Recognition of complex trauma:

• How is the possibility of traumatic experiences raised in the assessment process?
• What is the level of understanding by staff (in general) of the impact of traumatic experiences on the client's presenting problems and behaviors?
• How could staff understanding of the impact of trauma be improved?
• How are cultural and gendered experiences of trauma recognized?

Physical environment:

• How does the physical environment of the service promote a sense of safety and calm? How could it be improved to promote a sense of safety and calm?
• Are there aspects of the physical environment that may be re-traumatising for clients? If so, how is this (or could this be) addressed?

Engagement and involvement of clients:

• How culturally competent is the service? What supports ongoing cultural competence?
• Does the service support a strengths-based recovery approach? If not, what is the approach to recovery?
• How is the impact of traumatisation on the client acknowledged and validated? If it isn't, how could it be?
• How does the service ensure clients and their carers are well informed about their treatment/service delivery?
• What strategies are used to encourage clients to participate in decision-making about their treatment/service delivery?

Cross section collaboration:

• Does the service work in collaboration with other services involved with the client?

Training and workforce development:

• How does the service address the emotional stress that can arise for staff working with clients who have experienced trauma?
• Does the service provide/support staff training in working with clients who have experienced trauma?
