Question:
rewrite/downside
Integrity and credibility are the ethics of professional practice that Juan Gomez was lacking in this instance. Juan Gomez lacked integrity because he created a conflict of interest when he borrowed money from a client. When money is borrowed from a client the act of borrowing destroys impartiality and the ability to present the accounting record as a true and faithful document. The borrowing of money creates an unduly influence upon an accountant to ensure that all statements and entries look good and do not reflect badly upon the organization. Juan Gomez's credibility also suffers he changed the information in the accounting record. So now he is a liar. When you do someone's records, so another person or organization can look at them and you present false information or omitted information which makes it false then you have lied. No, Juan Gomez could have only removed himself from the situation by giving back the money or better yet by not asking for any money in the first place. Juan Gomez further compounded the problem by altering accounting records for Tony Russo. Tony Russo new exactly what he was doing when he loaned Juan Gomez money. Otherwise Juan Gomez would never have been asked to change a few numbers and sign off on a good financial record. Juan Gomez did this to himself. He put himself in a position to where he could be manipulated into conducting unethical practices in exchange for the silence of a customer and the borrowing of money. So I do not think that the FASB, IRS, SEC and a host of other governmental agencies will be looking very favorably upon Juan Gomez's adjustments to the accounting record
