Question:
Suppose that you are running a market research company that is managing an online panel to execute consumer surveys. Registered members can collect points by filling out surveys, and the collected points can be redeemed to different vouchers (e.g., cinema tickets, restaurant menus). Despite this incentive, the response rate is rather low, only 49% of the targeted panel members fill out the surveys on average. You believe that the incentive is not high enough to encourage sufficient number of people, therefore, you increase the points given for each filled out survey by 30%. One month after the increase, you check the response rate and it increased to 61% (in this one month, 5,362 surveys were sent and 3,271 were filled out).
Execute a hypothesis test in Excel on the increase of the percentage of people filling out the surveys.
Calculate the p-value in Excel.
Evaluate (on 5% significance level) whether there is enough statistical evidence that the percentage of people filling out the surveys has increased.
