You are an engineering student at zmir Katip elebi University and The New Year 2023 is fast approaching. Despite your study load, you decide to see your relatives and attend New Year Dinner at the house of your uncle Mustafa in Antalya. Your elder uncle, Mehmet, from Erzurum will also be there. As you arrive, you immediately find Mustafa and Mehmet in a heated discussion. As it turns out, Uncle Mehmet has been complaining about how horrible his heating bills will be during the upcoming winter. Mustafa claims that things are far worse in Antalya, where keeping his house cool in the summer requires much more energy. While Mustafa's house (130 m) is poorly insulated, Mehmet's house (200 m) is well-insulated. Since you are the only "engineer-to-be" in the family, Mustafa and Mehmet naturally turn to you to settle their argument. Put your vast engineering knowledge to good use and help them settle their debate. Which house uses more energy: Mehmet's house in January or Mustafa's house in July? Why do you think so? Make a plausible explanation with calculations. You should look up required properties in the textbooks or internet, you can use house dimensions to estimate the surface area of each house, and make some reasonable estimates for wall thickness and temperatures etc. Estimate the missing values and calculate the heat lost/gained from each house. Don't forget to write the references you have used on your answer sheet. You are an engineering student at zmir Katip elebi University and The New Year 2023 is fast approaching.
