The importance of audit sampling is underlined by the fact that this was one of the first topics covered by an SAS. Despite this, the standard does little more than define terms and lay down broad guidance at a very high level (e.g. that the effects of errors should be evaluated). Describe the difficulties which would have to be overcome by the APB if it were to produce a more detailed standard which would assist practising auditors in the design and evaluation of samples.
