Explanation Lien A right to lien is created when a person is not able to discharge his obligation towards the provider of goods or services Artisans lien It is the right of an artisan to sell the property that is created by him for the customer if he fails to provide the payment on time The word artisan includes laborers tradesperson launderers dry cleaners mechanics repairpersons contractors and subcontractors who provide services to their customers The law allows an artisan to sell the property of the customer and keep the proceeds that are necessary to cover the agreed expenses The remaining proceeds shall be returned to the owner For example if a person gave his clock for repairing purposes to a clockmaker and fails to provide the payment within 90 days the clockmaker is entitled by the right of the artisans lien to sell the clock to recover his expenses The clockmaker is under an obligation to ...View the full answer
