Bank Teller Staffing Plan As the teller supervisor at Montana Federal Credit Union you are responsible for developing a staffing plan for tellers that meets customer needs, satisfies the union contract that specifies hours per week for each teller, and optimizes labor costs. This plan will be used throughout the next six months, so it would be nice to get it right. You currently have 9 tellers on staff (4 full- time and 5 part-time). You may need to hire and train some new part-time tellers. Hiring and training new tellers is always a demanding process. The staffing requirements and constraints are summarized below: + 1. Part-time workers work four-hour shifts only, including at most two consecutive shifts if necessary. Full-time workers must work eight-hour shifts Monday-Friday and four-hour shifts on Saturdays. 2. Shifts can begin at any even hour of the day, 8:00 am, 10:00 am, etc. + 3. Weekly schedules must include at least the contract hours for each teller (40 hours for full- timers and 32 hours for part-timers) but cannot exceed more than the contract hours plus 4 hours for both part-time and full-time workers. 4. The bank is open from 8:00 am -6:00 pm Monday - Friday and from 8:00 am 2:00 pm on Saturdays. + 5. At least one full-time employee must be on duty at all times. < 6. With all benefits and hourly wages included full-time labor costs are $16.00 per hour while part-time labor costs are $8.00 per hour. + +Based on customer flow, the following numbers of tellers are needed: +¹ Mon Tue Wed Thu 84 54 8:00 am 10:00 am Noon 2:00 pm 4:00 pm ܢ6 54 64 64 54 64 44 64 64 545 64 54 64 64 ܒ5 ته 6 543 64 Fri ت.6 54 74 540 8+ Sat 74 84 94 04 04 Suggest two staffing plans: + a. A staffing plan that uses a rational approach (and includes # of tellers per shift, by day of the week). What is the weekly labor cost of your suggested plan? How many additional full- and part-time staff will you be hiring? (Note: you will be presented with a data analysis tool in class to help you with the rational approach) + b. A staffing plan that uses a creative approach (and includes # of tellers per shift, by day of the week) What is the weekly labor cost of your suggested plan? How many additional full- and part-time staff will you be hiring? +¹ IMPORTANT: For both plans, ALL constraints must be met. Include charts and/or graphs to help support your plans.
