Your customer wants a Gas Power Plant based on Bryton (thermodynamic) cycle which can deliver 100 MW of net power. The power plant is to be stationed in East New Orleans. (i) (ii) (iii) Propose to your customer a power plant after carrying out an efficiency analysis on two type of Bryton cycles: 1. Ideal Air-Standard Bryton Cycle 2. Ideal Air-Standard Bryton Cycle with Regenerator Assume that the combustion chamber is made of SS 316. Carry out a parametric study for each cycle to determine the relation between the thermal efficiency of the cycle and the pressure compression ratio. Vary the compression ratio between 8 and 12 (with increments of 1) for your parametric study. Note 1: For this part of the problem, use the thermal efficiency equations given in class for the types of power cycles mentioned above. (Do not carry out a thermodynamic analysis for this part of the design.) Note 2: Make a table of your results and then plot it on a thermal efficiency vs compression ratio plane. One figure; that is, plot your results for each cycle on the same graph. Carry out a thermodynamic analysis on the plant you chose in part (i) of the problem, and determine the cost of "fuel oil" per one hr operation of the power plant based on fuel-air ratio (F/A ratio) of 0.017. Note 1: Your power plant is to burn fuel-oil, NOT natural gas. Note 2: In your formulation for the thermodynamic analysis: include inefficiencies in the compressor and turbine (85% each), include the mass of the fuel, assume variable properties for working fluid, and assume the properties of the combustion products to be same as that of air. Make a qualitative Capital Cost and Reliability Analysis of the Gas Power Plant you plan to propose to your customer. Note: Work the problem in British Units (BU) Your customer wants a Gas Power Plant based on Bryton (thermodynamic) cycle which can deliver 100 MW of net power.
