Look through https://www.abajournal.com/news/or any other news website and give a brief synopsis (using your own words - do not plagiarize the article) of a story involving a Tort or Strict/Product Liability that occurred in the US. Discuss the circumstances of the incident, the parties to the lawsuit, as well as what the potential remedies (i.e., equitable or legal remedies) are. Make sure you understand what a tort is (and what is NOT a tort). A common mistake students make is to confuse criminal law with tort law. Although a civil tort action may result from criminal conduct, for this discussion, we are only discussing civil tort law. Here's an example of an interesting case, but does NOT concern a civil tort. This case involves constitutional civil liberties and is more aptly described as an employment law (or civil rights) case. As fascinating as this case is, it would be incorrect to discuss this case in this discussion board. On the flip side, here's a good example of a tort case: Georgia jury reaches $1.7B verdict in case over Ford truck crash >. Do not discuss a tort case where the state or federal government (i.e., Department of Justice) is a plaintiff (civil lawsuits that name the government is a defendant are acceptable). Don't forget to provide a link! Click "Reply" and post your initial 100 to 200 word response by Wednesday evening at 11:59 pm Pacific Time. Then read through the other entries and reply directly to at least two classmates by Friday evening at 11:59 pm Pacific Time. Explain why you find your classmates' responses interesting or striking (don't just reply with "That's interesting," or "I agree"). Each reply must have a minimum of 50 words. When you reply, always type the name of the classmate you are responding to, and your name at the bottom of the message. Make sure to use proper grammar and punctuation in this college level course and in all other correspondence. Please avoid "text" or "twitter speak" when corresponding. Summarizing or paraphrasing content from the book or other sources is acceptable, but I am most interested in reading your personal thoughts and analysis of that content. This information is included in the syllabus, but I wanted to make sure I emphasized the importance of participating in the Weekly Discussions, as they will be a part of your course grade calculation. Be sure to click on the "Discussions" link in our course page in Canvas. You will need access to the textbook in order to participate in discussions.
