A vice president from the customer service team told me that the company's largest customer was going to be conducting an on-site audit. The customer would be particularly interested in seeing the dedicated computing equipment that was part of their contract. As it turns out, we did not have any dedicated computing equipment. The director was incredulous because the past director of my area had, on multiple occasions, told him that there was. As it turned out, the former director had been lying. To survive the audit, the VP asked me to lie and also to put fake labels on some of the machines to show the customer. If I didn't agree, I knew the director would be furious, and we might lose this client.
