An article titled “Graft-versus-Host Disease” (www.nature.com/) gives the median age of 42 years for the 87 patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) who received hematopoietic stem cell transplants from unrelated donors after standard conditioning. Clinical outcome after the use of two different antithymocyte globulins (ATG) for the prevention of graft-versus-host disease (GvHD) were then analyzed. Suppose that a sample of 100 patients with AML was recently selected for a study and it found that 40 of the patients were older than 42 and 60 were younger than 42 years of age.
