You need a tutor and have decided to look online. But, you have no idea how to do it right, to make sure you aren’t getting scammed and you’re getting the right tutor. Here are six tips for hiring an online tutor:
Solidify a Payment Method Before Pursuing a Tutor
Before even beginning your search for a tutor, you’re going to need to know how you’re going to pay for the tutoring sessions. Tutors aren’t going to do their work pro bono so make sure you have all of your funds solidified so there will be no problems once your payment period begins.
Don’t Consult the Dark Web
There are a lot of skeevy places on the internet where you can buy a goblin ear for seventy dimes. These are not the places to look for a tutor. Sure, they might be cheaper. Sure, they might be just as good as the one you’ll find on a reputable site. But, you’ll have to run the risk of someone trying to steal your identity or finding your address to come and steal all of your underwear. That’s a risk nobody should be willing to take.
Use a Credited Website
You don’t just want a tutor, you want the right tutor. So, make sure you are looking on a site with accreditation. Every tutor on this site will be verified, ensuring you aren’t paying someone looking to scam you. You will also be getting someone that knows their stuff and will be able to effectively tutor you.
Complete a Background Check on Your Potential Tutor
If you take my advice and look on a credited website, you’ll be finding a safe tutor. That said, you should still be doing your own research on your potential tutor. This has less to do with knowing their legit and more with figuring out if they’re the right fit. What did they go to school for? How long have they been tutoring? Are they full-time? Do they have another job? What’s their style? These are all things you can find with a background check. Do this so you don’t pursue someone that’s a wrong fit for what you desire.
Search the Web for Reviews About the Tutor You’ve Selected
So, you’ve done your background check and made sure to select a tutor on a credited site. All good, right? No. You need to check out some reviews or reactions from people that have used the tutor. No matter how much training, education, and experience on has, it doesn’t necessarily mean everything will always go well. So, see some reviews to see how people responded to him or her. Also, check to see if something pops up over and over again. For example, if every review says they aren’t willing to adjust their strategy, it will likely be the same with you. It will give you a clearer picture of who they are.
Interview Your Prospective Tutor
You’ve decided on your tutor. Now, it’s time for the final interview. This serves as a formality. But, this interview, which needs to take place over live video, will determine your chemistry with your tutor. Do you guys vibe? Can you see yourself being willing to learn from this person? The final interview is all about seeing whether you get along with the tutor. If you do, great! You have a tutor. But, if not, it’s time to start the whole adventure over again. Sigh…
