(a) In which order should you connect them to n masses and a top support so that the bottom mass goes down the farthest under a uniform gravitational force? Does your answer depend upon the relative sizes of the spring constants?
(b) Answer the same question when the springs connect n - 1 masses to both top and bottom supports.
