John is a small businessman who gets in over his head, incurring debts he cannot pay. In desperation, he turns to the local motorcycle gang to borrow some money to keep his business afloat. He hopes to solve his money problems at the local casino. At first he does well, winning regularly, and then he makes a huge bet and loses it all. He is left alone, despondent, drinking bad Scotch and staring at one of the dice that let him down. He decides to check whether the die is fair. He rolls it repeatedly; recording how many times each side comes up. The results are shown in Exhibit 12.18 below. Is the die fair? (Will Mary ever forgive him?) Use α = 0.025.
