I'm a highly experienced, skilled maths and statistics tutor, currently based in Christchurch, New Zealand. I had a passion for learning mathematics from a young age, however, it wasn't until I was sixteen that I discovered how talented I was at this subject. Without any prior experience, I tried out for and was selected for the New Zealand Internation Mathematical Olympiad Team (NZIMO team) to compete at the IMO in Greece in 2004. The following year I was also selected for the NZ team and travelled to Mexico to compete in the 46th IMO. Following on from this, I gained acceptance to Princeton, where I studied for a year, though ultimately returned back to NZ to finish my degree due to health issues. At Auckland University, I completed a Bachelor of Science, double majoring in math and psychology, and a Masters in Statistics.
I have worked extensively as a private tutor both in the US and NZ for approx 12 years now. During this time, I've worked with hundreds of students of all ages and abilities, and who were taking a wide range of courses or preparing for various types of exams. This includes helping US middle / high school students prepare for the SSAT, SAT, PSAT, and AP exams, and university students who were preparing for the GRE exams. I'm able to tutor any high school math /statistics subject, and can also help with a wide range of university-level courses.
In terms of my tutoring style, I find it is best to adjust my tutoring style to suit the individual student I am working with - for example, some students prefer lessons that go slowly and involve lots of repetition to reinforce their understanding of a topic, whereas other students might be looking for extension work and want to go through topics quickly. .However, in general, I am a patient and friendly maths tutor, who has a genuine love for both studying and teaching mathematics, and I try to pass on this passion to my students, or at the very least, help them to not hate or be scared of math!
