One of the best places to see how data can be presented visually is in government statistical publications, which are often available on the Internet. For example, the International Trade Administration (ITA), a branch of the U.S. Department of Commerce, publishes monthly reports about U.S. trade with other countries. Visit the report page of its website, at trade.gov, and follow the link to the latest monthly International Trade Update (you should find the link on the right side of the homepage). Download the complete issue as a PDF file. Using what you learned in this chapter, evaluate the charts in the report. Do they present the data clearly? Are they missing any elements? What would you do to improve the charts? Print a copy of the report to turn in with your answers and indicate which charts you are evaluating.
