Reading is something that everybody should not be overlooked. It is the first way to learn and the oldest one and from it we can acquire the knowledge, science, ideas and principles. Reading is one of the most important interest that people should be adhered to. Moreover,the importance of reading is the most effective way to learn about different cultures and science. Also, it can improve the personality due to a huge balance of ideas and information. In this essay, I will discussmy parents' attitude about my reading habits and I will highlight whether their reading habits affected mine.
My parents are illiterate and I was like a person who don't like reading but my parents did their best in order to let me love reading and they tried to find somebody of my relatives to teach me the letters and how to pronounce words in the appropriate way and then reading. He was myuncle, Joseph, he taught me how to read until I became a perfect reader. However, there are some points about my uncle's attitude which is wrong. There is no doubt that yelling is a bad way in teaching because that will never bring the correct and I believe that it will change the person's attitude about reading. In addition, hitting is the worst idea in teaching because it might let the person hate school and education. For example, yelling and hitting happened to me but I'm so lucky to have a father who was always beside me and encourage me for being patient. Rodriguezwas believing in the idea that books will make him more educated and valuable andthey help him to cope his fear.
We can infer that teaching should not be in any kind of violence in order to support kids to read and acquire ideas and information.
Now, let me highlight how my uncle's habits affected me. First of all, my uncle did not care about the meaning. Reading without understanding does not make any sense. He did not explain to me the difficult words and if I ask him, I got no answers or wrong answers. This kind of teaching affected me because I had wrong ideas and information. Also, I read without understanding. According to the book, "It also forms a false sense that it was ok that after reading you still totally do not understand it"(Rodriguez, 2010).One more important point is that school is not doing its part in reading education. For instance, when I was at school the teacher didn't give me enough time to read and understand the passage and then he asked me without caring about any difficulty that I encountered while reading. This is exactly happened to Rodriguez. I think we really need better teachers who are calm and ready to listen to us, and Patience as well. According to the book, "She studied my face as I spoke; she seemed to be watching more than listening." (Rodriguez, 2010).It is evident from this quote that we have a bad system of education and a lack of respect.
However, my parents haven't stop encouraging me to read books, especially my father, which he decided to teach me about books, how to read them, and how to love reading books. So, he showed me something I didn't thought that he had it. My father opened a secrete room in our house, that I didn't had any idea about it, and he showed me a very huge bookshelf that he owns with many old and rare books, he even showed me some books that discuss about how important to read books. I really loved that huge bookshelf and I got so interested in reading books, and I decided to read 3 books in every month from my fathers' bookshelf. I think my father's way was the right way to let me love reading books, not by yelling or hitting, just showing the interesting stuff about reading books is enough.
I have shown that reading is playing a significant role in developing people and the society. I have shown my parent's attitude about my reading habits and I have highlight how their reading habits affected mine, when my father shoed me his huge bookshelf.The result of reading can keep people more open-minded and provide them with a high balanced of ideas and information, which can help them in their academic life. In addition to that, reading is spreading from generation to another and today we are relying on schools so teachers must exert effort in order to help students to be able to read in a appropriate manor. Also, those teachers must stand with students and encourage them so that nothing impede them.
