Social scientists have long been interested in the aspirations and achievements of people in the United States. Research on social mobility, status, and educational attainment has provided convincing evidence on the relationship between parents' and children's socioeconomic achievement. The GSS 2010 data set has information on the educational level of respondents and their mothers. Use the scatterplot and regression output below to interpret the relationship between mothers' level of education and one's own level of education (see figures 13.34 and 13.35).
