Question:
In footnote 2 some claims were made about the average level of fourth quarter sales for Target Corp. Using the Target Quarterly Sales.xlsx workbook from the official Web site (www.cengage.com/finance/mayes/analysis/9e) verify those claims.
a. Create a line chart of Target’s quarterly revenue and net income, with net income on a secondary y-axis. Does there appear to be any seasonality in its revenue? Net income?
b. Create a pivot table that has Fiscal Year and Fiscal Quarter in the Rows field, and Revenue in the Values field. Be sure to show subtotals for each year at the bottom of each group.
c. Add Revenue to the Values field a second time. Use Show Values As % of Parent Total to show quarterly sales as a percentage of full year sales. What is the average for the fourth quarter? First quarter?
d. Add Revenue to the Values field a third time. Use Show Values As % Difference From to show the year-over-year percentage change in quarterly sales.
e. Repeat parts b and c, but this time using Net Income.
