The benzene-toluene distillation column in Section 22. 2 must temporarily handle a (25 %) increase in throughput
Question:
The benzene-toluene distillation column in Section 22. 2 must temporarily handle a \(25 \%\) increase in throughput while maintaining the same outlet concentrations. Determine the operating conditions required if the reflux ratio remains constant. What other factors must be considered in order to determine whether the column can handle this amount of increased throughput?
Data from section 22.2
Transcribed Image Text:
A distillation column requires a reboiler to add the energy necessary to accomplish the separation. A condenser is also required to reject heat to the surroundings. The performance of a distillation column cannot be analyzed without consideration of the performance of both heat exchangers. This is illustrated in the following case study.
