Change the Florida population sizes for the three age categories so that they fit the same age distribution as the U.S. population.

Next, adjust the corresponding numbers of deaths proportionately. (Use the same Florida mortality rates for the individual age categories, but apply those rates to the adjusted population sizes.) Finally, compute the Florida mortality rate using the adjusted values. The result is a mortality rate adjusted for the variable of age.
