Moerloose et al. (A-18) conducted a study to evaluate the clinical usefulness of a new laboratory technique

Question:

Moerloose et al. (A-18) conducted a study to evaluate the clinical usefulness of a new laboratory technique (method A) for use in the diagnosis of pulmonary embolism (PE). The performance of the new technique was compared with that of a standard technique (method B). Subjects consisted of patients with clinically suspected PE who were admitted to the emergency ward of a European university hospital. The following are the measurements obtained by the two techniques for 85 patients. The researchers performed two analyses: (1) on all 85 pairs of measurements and (2) on those pairs of measurements for which the value for method B was less than 1000.
