In your professional career, you will likely interact with people from cultures different than your own. So become mindful—that is, more conscious—of the behaviors that you perceive and use to be immediate that others may perceive to be nonimmediate and perhaps even threatening. For example, when someone doesn’t reciprocate direct eye contact with you, that may be a sign of respect rather than disrespect.
