This opening case describes some of the behind-the-scenes activity that is required for the successful production and marketing of chocolate. Production activity involves harvesting cocoa beans, and this work is often performed by children between the ages of 12 and 16 who work in bad conditions. The “fair trade” idea is discussed as a possible solution to this problem.
