Using the annotated version of the federal statutes, look for relevant case law annotations on Ms. Consum er’s legal problem in the notes of decisions following the relevant statutory section. If there is not an anno tated version of the federal statutes in your library, if no cases appear there, or if you want to learn to use another source, use a federal digest. Once you find rel evant case annotations, you will want to locate the cases that interpret the statute and are as similar to Ms. Consumer’s situation as possible.

a. Write down the citations to no more than three relevant cases. Now look up those cases in the case reporters.

b. Read through the summary and headnotes of each case. Do the cases still appear to be relevant? If not, go back to the annotated statute or digest and look for more relevant cases.

c. What did you find? Did the courts’ application of the statute change your answer to the legal prob lem facing Ms. Consumer?

d. How would you update the case law that you located to make sure that it was still current law?
