In 1979, Ford, indicted for manslaughter, was one of the first corporations to face such charges based on a defective product. In the mid-1990s, the crash of a ValuJet airplane in the Florida Everglades again led to criminal charges. This time, however, the defendant was not the airline or its manufacturer, but SabreTech, a maintenance company. SabreTech was charged with mislabeling hazardous waste (used oxygen generators) and delivering it to the plane that crashed.
