As reviewed in the current chapter, considerable research attention has been given to whether satisfied workers perform better at their jobs than dissatisfied workers (see Judge et al. 2001). This research takes a between-person approach to the satisfaction–performance relation. A less researched question has adapted a within-person perspective: Does an individual worker perform better on days he or she is satisfied than on days he or she is dissatisfied (see Fisher, 2003)?
