The main plot of disaster movies (which depict the antecedents, occurrence, consequences and – usually – solution of a catastrophe) such as Jurassic Park, King Kong, Airport and The Towering Inferno can be framed into Wagenaar et al.’s (1990) general accident causation scenario, with bad decisions leading to latent failures, latent failures to unsafe behaviours and failing defences resulting in disaster. The same applies to many crime movies (e.g. Ocean’s 11, Ocean’s 12 and Ocean’s 13 are all about finding the weak spots in an organization’s defences against theft). Spend an evening watching one of these (or a similar) movies with family or friends, and explain afterwards to them how the general accident causation scenario can be applied to it.
