On your own or with a classmate, visit your school’s library, a mall, or anywhere that people gather. Take 10 or 15 minutes to observe the nonverbal cues that people give each other: Does the librarian smile at students? What is the body language of students in groups?

Notice any changes in nonverbal communication when someone joins a group or leaves it. After you leave the area, jot down as many of your observations as you can.
