In early 2016, tire manufacturer Continental, which is based in Germany, announced plans to invest $1.4 billion to manufacture commercial vehicle tires at a plant the company planned to build in Mississippi. Continental apparently felt that it would be better able to compete and create value with U.S.-based facilities. Other companies such as Fujifilm and Swiss chemical company Lonza have reached similar conclusions and taken similar actions.
