Question:

A backpacker from Europe has just arrived in Australia at the start of a year-long holiday. She has no fixed schedule but plans to move around the country as the opportunities arise. She needs some money so answers an advert for fruit pickers. The farmer asks ‘are you planning to stay here all season?’ She does not want to commit because she wants the freedom to travel when good opportunities arise; but she also knows if she doesn’t say ‘I plan to stay around and work right through the picking season’ she won’t be offered a job. What should she say? She really needs some money, but hasn’t travelled all the way to Australia just to pick fruit on one farm!
