When they were still young Suhail Bhawan and his brother Saud Bhawan inherited a traditional wooden dhow (boat) from their father. They used it to trade goods such as fi shing nets, building materials, dates and spices between India and Oman. The trade fl ourished and in 1965 both brothers moved to the capital, Muscat, where they set up a small shop in Muttrah souq, a traditional market frequented by traders and travellers. However, things changed when they obtained exclusive licenses to sell Seiko watches and Toyota vehicles in Oman. Toyota rapidly became the b est-selling car in Oman, building on its reliability and backed by good service. As a result, the dealership expanded to other towns and cities in Oman.
