The report “Health Insurance Coverage of the Near Elderly” (Urban Institute, July 2000) includes information from a study of American adults. The sample used in the study was a random sample of those who participated in the National Survey of America’s Families, a national survey of more than 100,000 people, and was considered to be representative of American adults. Using data consistent with summary quantities appearing in the report, the following table classifies individuals in the sample according to age group and whether or not the individual was considered to be in good health. Use the given data to test the hypothesis that age group and whether or not an individual is in good health are independent. Use α = .01.
