The amount of wind power produced through wind turbines steadily increases year after year, at a growth rate of about 25 percent. These wind turbines can be as tall as a twenty story building and have long, sharp blades. Wind farms have been found to kill thousands of birds annually, including golden eagles and hawks. In November, 2013, for example, Duke Energy, operator of several wind farms in Wyoming, was fined $1 million for violation of the Migratory Bird Treaty Act for the harm caused to numerous migratory birds, including golden eagles.
