7 Palm Pilots or PDA devices can store personal identification information, read mobile DB files, work with databases, store passwords and credit card information, contact brokerage transactions, send e-mail, set up a budget, analyze cash flows, and keep track of customer information. Recently, there have been new tools developed for the forensic analysis of Palm OS platform devices. For Palm OS v.1.0 to v 3.5.2, pdd is a free Windows-based tool for Palm OS memory imaging and forensic acquisition. This utility is used to acquire memory, information, and bit-for-bit image of the selected memory region. No data is modified on the target device, and the data retrieved is not detectable by the PDA user. The software is available from @stake (http://www. atstake.com/research/tools/index\#pdd).
