Honda workers return after four-month shutdown Honda shut down its U.K. Swindon car plant for four months in 2009, cutting annual production by 50 percent to 11,300 vehicles and shedding 1,300 workers through voluntary redundancies. Workers were paid 2 months’ full pay and 2 months on 60 percent of pay during the shutdown.
