Disputes are part of the bargaining process. Mediators, arbitrators, grievance processes, and negotiating are all important ways to manage and resolve disputes. Most firms, though, don’t seem to be doing a very good job of managing disputes. Employers can do at least three other things to help reduce disputes. Employers need policies and practices that encourage employees to treat each other with fairness and respect, behave in a way that fosters trust, and, when disagreements do arise, some interpersonal conflict resolution approaches are better than others.?
