56 Ranking driving performance of professional golfers.

Refer to The Sport Journal (Winter 2007) study of a new method for ranking the total driving performance of golfers on the Professional Golf Association (PGA) tour, presented in Exercise 25 . You fit a straight-line model relating driving accuracy ( y ) to driving distance ( x ) to the data saved in the PGADRIVER file.

a. Give the null and alternative hypotheses for testing whether driving accuracy ( y ) decreases linearly as driving distance ( x ) increases.

b. Find the test statistic and p -value of the test you set up in part a .

c. Make the appropriate conclusion at a = .01.
