In 2022, the top five destinations for FDI were the US, Germany, the UK, India, and China. Around 43 percent of all outbound FDI came from the US, the UK, Germany, Japan, and France. The three countries which saw the biggest overall increase in incoming FDI were Columbia, Ireland, and Portugal. Why were these countries particularly attractive for FDI? How can a country be both a top FDI destination and a top investor like the US, the UK, and Germany?
