He concludes that this year, unlike other years, the camp must not be using a variety of colours. But then he finds out that in each child’s age group there are four teams, only one of which wears white shirts. Each child just happened to get on the white team at random.

a) Why was he so surprised? If each age group uses the same four colours, what’s the probability that all four kids would get the same colour shirt?

b) What’s the probability that all four would get white shirts?

c) We lied. Actually, in the oldest child’s group there are six teams instead of the four teams in each of the other three groups. How does this change the probability you calculated in part b)?
