Michael Brook, the head of the card control subunit, was recently arrested and charged with fraud. Brook found a returned card for which he was unable to locate the customer. The account was not in current use but had a large balance, so he reset the PIN, increased the daily withdrawal limit from the default $400 to the maximum of $2000 and used the card at ATMs to withdraw all the cash from the account. Brook's fraud was not discovered by the bank or its auditors but was reported by his wife, incensed on discovering that he was spending the stolen money on other women.
