Citations are given to acknowledge others’ work at appropriate places. In general terms the test is to read the material and ask ‘says who?’ for each statement. If this is something which is clearly the author's own thoughts, then perhaps a citation is not required. However, in many cases there will be a requirement for a citation to acknowledge the source(s) of the ideas, facts, statistics; and so on.
