Norway took only 109 athletes to the 2018 Winter Olympics in South Korea but won 39 medals, 14 of them gold. That performance easily exceeded every other nation’s medal totals, so much so that Norwegians worried they were winning too many medals. Norwegian Olympic athletes do not receive prize money when they win medals, although many nations, including the United States, do offer cash. In their youth sports programs, Norwegians do not allow score keeping until age 13.
