When an employee of Epicycle cashed a payroll check at Money Mart Check Cashing Center, Inc., the instrument was deposited with others into Money Mart’s bank account. Regrettably the check was subsequently returned marked, “payment stopped.” When Money Mart attempted to collect on the check at a later date, Epicycle defended against the collection efforts by maintaining that Money Mart could not do so as it failed to even inquire about the validity of the check before taking it.
