4. The leader asks each member in turn to state the group purpose for the group each is to lead (or be a participant in), as if each was the actual group leader speaking to the group. If some or all participants do not know the purpose of the group or even of the group to which they will belong, the following hypothetical groups can be assigned: a postoperative teaching group, the family of an individual who will return home after a long hospitalization, a supportive group for the severely burned, a consciousness-raising group for men, a supportive group for people with epilepsy, a teaching group for new parents, a nutrition group for prison inmates, a teaching group for individuals with congestive heart failure, an orientation group for new nursing staff members, a supportive group for families whose children are dying, a supportive group for people with quadriplegia, a play group for preschoolers, an activity group for senior citizens, a social group for nursing home residents, and an exercise group for psychiatric clients.
