During the past few years, surveys of millennials’ opinions about work have taken front and center in the focus on CSR. In one survey, 86 percent of millennials (those between the ages of 22 and 37) would consider taking a pay cut to work at a company whose mission and values align with their own. Only 9 percent of baby boomers (those between the ages of 54 and 72) would. In another survey, only 31 percent of millennials say they would leave their current job if their employer were to ask them to do something they would find morally or ethically questionable compared to 51 percent of baby boomers. Based on these results, can we conclude that millennials are purpose-driven at work but relatively unethical, especially in comparison to baby boomers?
